It lets RetroArch verify that a ROM file is the genuine, correct version, assign it a clean display name, pull box-art thumbnails, and show metadata like developer, release year, and genre. The data is compiled from trusted preservation groups such as No-Intro, Redump, TOSEC, GameTDB, and MAME.
