What is linux-ptl?

linux-ptl is a specially patched Linux kernel built for Intel Panther Lake laptops (such as the Dell XPS Panther Lake line) that packages roughly twenty hardware backports ahead of their arrival in a standard stable kernel. It focuses on fixes for Panel Replay power management and OLED variable refresh rate (VRR), the kind of day-one enablement work that lets brand-new silicon run properly on Linux before upstream stable catches up. It was built through collaboration between Intel, Dell, and the Omarchy project and is meant to be a stopgap until mainline Linux fully absorbs the changes.
