What is sunshine?

Sunshine is a self-hosted game stream host that works with the Moonlight client to let you play PC games remotely on another device, from a phone to a Steam Deck to a smart TV. It uses hardware encoding on AMD, Intel, or Nvidia GPUs when available, falling back to software encoding otherwise, and emulates Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch controllers for the client side.

Good to know

  • A Moonlight client app on the device you'll stream to
  • A GPU with hardware encoding support (AMD, Intel, or Nvidia) for best performance, though software encoding works without one
  • Network access between the host and the streaming device
